Shout Out 1: Jessica Linton

China’s supposedly equal treatment of women. We read last week that China actually is a proponent of equal rights for women and there’s even a section in the Constitution about it. However, in class we heard that women cannot hold any positions of power in the Party, so the initial belief that women are equal to men in all areas is somewhat misguided. Equality should be in all areas, not just most areas. Although this is one area that China is better in than the U.S. (they have an actual part in the Constitution about it, while the U.S. is still working on that), it’s still not full equality for women. Maybe that will change sometime soon.
